Our Privacy Policy
Book Report helps authors understand their publishing business. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. The short version is simple: we use your data to run Book Report for you, we do not sell it, and we do not make it public.
Here are the plain-English promises:
- We use your private Book Report data to provide, secure, support, and improve Book Report.
- We do not sell your personal data, sales data, book data, report data, connected-account data, or credentials.
- We do not make your private data public.
- We do not share your private data with other users or outside companies for their own use. The only exceptions are when you choose to use a Data Sharing feature, when we are legally required to disclose information, or when trusted service providers process data for us under terms that limit what they can do with it.
- You can delete your Book Report account data from Settings. Some limited records may remain where we need them for security, billing, legal, abuse-prevention, or backup reasons.
What We Collect
Account Information
We store information such as your email address, account settings, subscription status, trial status, connected publishing accounts, and billing-related identifiers. We use this to operate your account, provide support, manage billing, and remember your preferences.
Publishing and Report Data
When you connect a publishing account or service, Book Report imports data you can already access there. This may include sales, royalties, borrows, pages read, refunds, book metadata, rankings, ratings, reviews-related metadata, marketplace information, and other reporting data.
We store copies of this data so Book Report can load quickly, show historical reports, power all-time views, and avoid repeatedly fetching the same information from your connected accounts.
Cookies, Tokens, and Connected Accounts
Some connections need a way for Book Report to fetch data for you after you ask it to update. Depending on the integration, that may be a browser cookie, access token, or similar credential. The browser extension may send Book Report cookies for domains you have connected.
We use these credentials only to access the data needed to provide Book Report features for your account. We do not use them to access unrelated services. We store them securely, limit access, and scope their use to the connected services they belong to.
Sharing Features
If you use Book Report's sharing features, we share only the selected data with the person or account you choose. Shared reports may identify the data owner so recipients understand whose data they are viewing.
We do not share your data with other users unless you choose to share it.
Usage and Diagnostic Information
We collect limited usage information to understand how people use Book Report and to improve the product. We also collect logs and diagnostic information to keep the service reliable, investigate bugs, prevent abuse, and help with support.
Routine usage analytics are designed not to include sales data or credential data. In support, debugging, or reliability cases, diagnostic records may contain request details, error details, or data needed to understand what went wrong. We limit access to this information and use it only for operating and improving Book Report.
Billing Information
Payments and subscriptions are handled through Stripe. We store billing-related identifiers and subscription status in Book Report, but Stripe handles payment processing. Stripe may store information such as your billing email, payment method details, invoices, and subscription history according to Stripe's own policies.
Emails and Product Communication
We may store your email address to provide account support, send transactional emails, and, where you have opted in, send product updates or marketing emails. You can opt out of marketing emails.
How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
- Fetch and import data from connected publishing services.
- Generate reports, charts, summaries, and account views.
- Provide support and troubleshoot problems.
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and monitor service reliability.
- Manage billing, trials, subscriptions, and account status.
- Improve Book Report and decide what to build next.
- Produce aggregate, de-identified statistics about Book Report usage.
When we publish or discuss aggregate statistics, we do not identify you, your books, your account, or your private business performance.
Service Providers
We use trusted service providers for things like hosting, database storage, payments, email delivery, analytics, performance monitoring, and error reporting. They process data for us only as needed to provide those services, and we do not sell your data to them.
Security
Book Report uses HTTPS for communication with our service. We use industry-standard infrastructure and database security practices, and data is encrypted at rest by our hosting and database systems.
Like every online service, we cannot promise perfect security, but we take the privacy of author business data seriously. We limit access, avoid unnecessary exposure, and continue improving our security practices as the product grows.
Deleting Your Data
You can delete your Book Report account data from Settings. Deletion removes the data Book Report uses to provide reports and account features.
Some limited records may remain for security, billing, legal, abuse-prevention, operational, or backup reasons. For example, payment processors may retain billing records, and some logs or anti-abuse records may be retained for a limited period.
If you have questions about deleting your data, email us at hello@getbookreport.com.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure visits and performance. It sets no cookies, does not use fingerprinting, and reports aggregate usage and performance metrics. We use these metrics to improve the service.
