Attributes

Attributes are the qualitative data points that you can use to segment your sales data. All the attributes listed here are automatically detected by Book Report.

Attributes are used to segment your sales data. For example, you can choose which attribute you'd like each slice of the pie chart to be, or each row of the table.

Book Attributes​

  • Book: The book title. Multiple editions of the same book, such as ebook, paperback, hardcover, audiobook, and wide-store editions, are grouped together under one title.
  • Product: The catalog book grouping used by Book, except reviewed non-book BookFunnel products remain separate instead of being combined into one Non-Book Products row. Use Book ID for distributor-specific edition or product identifiers.
  • Series #: The book, displayed as Series Title #Position when series metadata is available; otherwise it falls back to the book title.
  • Author: The primary author of the book involved in the transaction. When a book has multiple authors, this uses the first or primary author.
  • Series: The series that the book is part of, when series metadata is available.
  • Publication Year: The year the book was published. For pre-orders, this is the year the pre-order period completed and the book became available.
  • Co-author: Contributor names listed as co-authors in distributor metadata. Multiple names may be combined in one value.

Edition Attributes​

  • Edition: A specific distributor Edition of a Book, such as its KDP eBook or ACX audiobook. Labels begin with the Book title and add useful distributor or format details. A provider ID is included only when those details do not distinguish the Book's Editions.
  • Language: The language associated with the book, when available.
  • Book ID: The raw identifier reported by the distributor for an Edition. Unlike Edition, this shows the ID without the Book title or a distributor and format label.
  • Translator: Contributor names listed as translators in distributor metadata. Multiple names may be combined in one value.
  • Illustrator: Contributor names listed as illustrators in distributor metadata. Multiple names may be combined in one value.
  • Editor: Contributor names listed as editors in distributor metadata. Multiple names may be combined in one value.
  • Format: The format of the book involved in the transaction, such as eBook, paperback, hardcover, or audiobook.
  • Distributor: The distributor or publishing platform that put the book on sale, such as Kindle Direct Publishing, Draft2Digital, Google Play Books, Kobo Writing Life, or Barnes & Noble Press.

Transaction Attributes​

  • Marketplace: The marketplace where the transaction took place, such as Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Google Play Books, Apple Books, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, or Kobo.
  • Transaction Type: The transaction type as reported by the distributor. Each distributor defines its own transaction types.
  • Country: The country where the transaction took place. For KDP sales, countries are inferred from the Amazon marketplace; most other distributors provide the country directly.
  • Data Owner: The Book Report data-sharing owner associated with the transaction, when shared data is present.
  • Royalty Percentage: The percentage of the sale price counted as royalties, where applicable.
  • Offer Price: The price at which the book was offered at the time of sale, converted into the selected currency and grouped into price ranges.

Date Attributes​

  • Date: The date the transaction took place.
  • Month: The month the transaction took place.
  • Year: The year the transaction took place.

Not Set​

Book Report does its best to determine ever attribute for every transaction in the system, but it's not always possible. If an attribute is not set, it will be listed as "Not Set" in the report. This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as:

  • KDP not reporting the price when a book is borrowed through Kindle Unlimited.
  • Barnes & Noble not providing the country of sale.
  • A book having been sold and then taken down before first using Book Report. Sometimes this means Book Report cannot determine a book's attributes.

If you are seeing Not Set for any book attribute, you can fix this manually by editing the value on the Books tab.
