Work with authors in Book Report
Book Report lets you work with an author's sales and advertising data in your own account. The author connects their accounts, approves what you can do, and keeps their data up to date.
How it works
- Request access to their data. Create a reusable request link in Book Report and send it to the author. Book Report guides them through connecting their accounts and approving your access, even if they've never used it before. Their data then becomes available in your account.
- Ask them to update their data. Whenever you need fresh figures, send the author the update link. They follow the steps on the page, and their updated data becomes available to you automatically.
- Include Book Report in your service, if you choose. With partner billing, you can pay for an author's subscription and include the cost in your own fees. Book Report emails the author an invitation to review and accept.
Paying for a subscription and receiving data are separate arrangements. An author needs to approve sharing even when you pay for their subscription. You can also receive data from an author who pays for Book Report themselves.
Which link to send
| Link | Where to get it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Request link | Settings → Data Access → Request access with a link… | A reusable link asking an author to share their data with you. You can send the same link to several authors. |
| Update page | app.getbookreport.com/update | Lets each author refresh the connected accounts in their own Book Report account. It does not change who can access their data. |
| Billing invitation | Settings → Account & Billing → Partner Billing → Invite Client | Book Report emails an invitation for one author to have their subscription paid by you. |
You can send the same update link to every author and include it in your regular requests for information.
Use the shared data
Once an author shares their data, it is automatically available throughout Book Report. You can:
- Build detailed reports. See earnings, sales, page reads and ad spend together, grouped by book, series, marketplace or other attributes. Nest groupings to break totals down further, and download the table as a CSV.
- Save reports for ongoing work. Keep the dates, filters and layout for reports you revisit. Use the Data Owner filter to focus a report on one author's data.
- Analyze series performance. Use read-through and earnings per reader to estimate how readers progress through a series and how much a new reader is worth.
- Bring the data into your own tools. Request the figures and breakdowns you need through the API to feed your own spreadsheets, dashboards or automations.
- Ask questions in ChatGPT or Claude. Compare recent launches or investigate a change in earnings. Your connected AI tool can pull the relevant reports directly from Book Report.
The author's sharing permissions still apply.
